Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) is taking an eco-friendly initiative and transforming its multipack packaging. In Western Europe, instead of multipack packaging, the firm’s products will have paperboard wraps or sleeves, according to the size of the package. Single-use plastic of roughly 4,400 Tons from the Western Europe region is supposed to be purged due to the latest eco-friendly decision of the firm to change its packaging material.

Vice-President of Sustainability for Coca-Cola European Partners Joe Franses stated, “We are committed to ensuring that 100% of our packaging is reusable and recyclable by 2025. To achieve this motive, our key focus was on the recyclability of our major packaging. We are now moving our focus to our minor packaging and working to shun as much redundant and critical-to-recycle packaging as possible from the firm’s portfolio.”

Selecting paperboard is supposed to be a more environment-friendly choice. Recently, the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research in Heidelberg, Germany, and CCEP entered into a partnership. The key motive of this collaboration is to device an advanced tool with the capability to assist in studying the sustainability impacts of diverse packaging. Franses stated, “Employing this tool, we carried out a widespread LCA for the materials required in shifting from plastic shrink wrap to cardboard. The outcomes demonstrated that cardboard offers the best equilibrium between recyclability and carbon footprint—with an extra advantage that we are replacing critical-to-recycle shrink with a totally recyclable Forest Stewardship Council [FSC]—or Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification [PEFC]—authorized cardboard from sustainable sources.”

On a similar note, in a move to broaden its offerings for its Indian customers beyond its key brands, Coca-Cola’s regional division recently launched Rani Float, its new fruit juice brand in India. Coca-Cola’s President for India and Southwest Asia region T. Krishnakumar stated that this rollout is “the latest instance of Coca-Cola’s plans to present more options to customers and catering to their sundry preferences and tastes across beverage categories.”
