Nestle has declared its framework to make a smooth transition to a regenerative food system that focuses on restoring and protecting the environment, enhancing the livelihood of farmers, and farming community wellbeing.

Nestle will operate with its food system partners, including the network of 150000 suppliers and 5 lakh farmers, to move forward with advanced regenerative farming techniques. The company is likely to start innovative programs to overcome the economic and social challenges of such transition.

The declaration was made in reference to the United Nations Food System Summit in New York, and thereby it emphasizes Nestle’s contribution to assist people in achieving the mission of sustainable development goals by 2030.

Nestle is investing around 1.7 billion over the period of 5 years to encourage regenerative agriculture across the supply chain of the company with the help of three primary levels to assist farmers in adopting such sustainable practices-

  • Pay the premium for regenerative agriculture goods – Nestle will help farmers by providing premiums for several raw materials they produce with the help of regenerative agriculture techniques and will buy them in huge quantities.
  • Offer investment facility – Of course, the transition comes with additional costs and new risks. Nestle has declared to help farmers by investing and offering them help for loan lending facilities for agricultural equipment.
  • Apply science and technology for assistance – Nestle has a wide network of agronomists and research & development experts; thereby, Nestle is looking forward to developing variants in high yielding coffee with low environmental impact along with novel solutions to lower the admission in the dairy supply chain.

Nestle has introduced the most sustainable and vital regenerative farming techniques, including water cycle regeneration, soil conservation, enhancing biodiversity, and integrating livestock.

Agriculture swipes up nearly two-third of Nestle’s complete greenhouse gas emission, with livestock and dairy wrapping around half of that.

However, by supporting the farming community, Nestle is diversifying the farmers’ income with its sustainability programs. However, Nestle also aims to implement new living income programs in its value chain to attract farmers.

Nestle will declare the exact plan for its cocoa and coffee supply chain later. However, Nestle’s regenerative agriculture and farming efforts are introduced under the slab of ‘generation regeneration’ that aims at farmers, employees, consumers, and youth. Also, to help young people, Nestle is introducing an innovative training program in November to train the next generation of farmers.
